Expert Tips and Tricks:

  • For extra flaky biscuits, keep your butter cold and handle the dough as little as possible.
  • Don’t skimp on the seasoning in your gravy – it’s what gives it that irresistible flavor.
  • Feel free to customize your biscuits with add-ins like jalapenos, green onions, or even shredded chicken.

Variations:

  1. Swap out the sausage for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  2. Add a splash of hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce to your gravy for extra depth of flavor.
  3. Stir in some cooked veggies like diced bell peppers or onions for added texture.
  4. Use a blend of different cheeses in your biscuits, like sharp cheddar and Parmesan.
  5. Make mini biscuits and gravy bites by cutting the biscuits smaller and serving them as appetizers.
  6. Experiment with different herbs and spices in your biscuits, like rosemary or smoked paprika.
  7. Top your biscuits and gravy with a fried egg for a hearty breakfast twist.
  8. Make a vegetarian version of the gravy using mushrooms instead of sausage.
  9. Serve the biscuits alongside a fresh fruit salad for a balanced meal.
  10. Add a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of green onions on top for extra flavor.

What to Serve It With:

  1. Scrambled eggs
  2. Hash browns
  3. Fresh fruit
  4. Roasted vegetables
  5. Crispy breakfast potatoes
  6. Avocado slices
  7. Sautéed spinach
  8. Grits
  9. Homemade jam or preserves
  10. A side of crispy bacon or sausage links

Freezing Biscuits:

  1. Once the biscuits have cooled completely, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Transfer the baking sheet to the freezer and freeze the biscuits until solid, about 1-2 hours.
  3. Once frozen, transfer the biscuits to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container, removing as much air as possible before sealing.
  4. Label the bag or container with the date and contents.
  5. Store the frozen biscuits in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Reheating Biscuits:

  1. When ready to enjoy, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the desired number of biscuits from the freezer and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake the frozen biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until heated through and golden brown.
  4. Serve warm and enjoy!

Freezing Gravy:

  1. Allow the gravy to cool completely before freezing to avoid condensation.
  2. Transfer the cooled gravy to airtight containers or freezer-safe bags, leaving some room for expansion.
  3. Seal the containers or bags tightly, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
  4. Label the containers or bags with the date and contents.
  5. Store the gravy in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Reheating Gravy:

  1. When ready to use, remove the gravy from the freezer and thaw it in the refrigerator overnight.
  2. Alternatively, you can thaw the gravy more quickly by placing the sealed container or bag in a bowl of cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes until thawed.
  3. Once thawed, transfer the gravy to a saucepan and reheat it over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
  4. If the gravy has thickened too much during freezing, you can thin it out with a splash of milk or broth as needed.
  5. Serve the reheated gravy over freshly baked or reheated biscuits and enjoy the comforting flavors of My Gramma’s Biscuits and Gravy once again!
