Beef Stroganoff (Crockpot or Stovetop)

A creamy, comforting beef stroganoff made with tender beef and a rich savory sauce, easily prepared in a crockpot or on the stovetop.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef stew meat
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 cup sour cream optional
  • 8 oz egg noodles cooked separately

Instructions

  • Lightly brown the beef stew meat in a skillet over medium-high heat to build flavor. Transfer the beef to a crockpot or a heavy-bottom pot.
  • Add the cream of mushroom soup and onion soup mix, stirring until well combined.
  • For the crockpot, cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
  • For the stovetop, cover and simmer on low heat for 1½–2 hours, stirring occasionally, until tender.
  • Just before serving, stir in the sour cream until smooth. Serve hot over cooked egg noodles.

Notes

  • Searing the beef adds depth and richer flavor
  • Add sour cream at the end to prevent curdling
  • Reheat gently to maintain a creamy texture
