Course: BBQ
Cuisine: Chinese
Keyword: bbq pork, char siu, chinese bbq pork
Cost: $
- 2 lb boneless pork shoulder or butt
- 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 green onions, sliced, for garnish
Cut the pork into cubed pieces, roughly 1 inch by 1 inch, as this helps the pork cook evenly and absorb the marinade better. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add the cubed pork to the marinade and toss until evenly coated. Cover with saran wrap or foil and allow to marinate for 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large 9x13 baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
Spread the marinated pork and sauce onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring the meat is in an even layer. Sprinkle the top of the meat evenly with granulated sugar, which will caramelize and create a delicious crust as it cooks.
Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, or until the pork reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
Optional: For extra crispiness, switch the oven to broil and broil each side of the pork for 3-4 minutes (6-8 minutes total) at the end of cooking.
Garnish your Chinese BBQ Pork with sliced green onions and serve alongside sticky rice for a delicious meal.
