Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 can (15 oz) chili beans, undrained
  • 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
  • 2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 cup Fritos corn chips
  • Sour cream (optional, for serving)
  • Sliced green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • Jalapeño slices (optional, for extra heat)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onions to the skillet and sauté until they become translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the beef mixture and stir well to combine. Let it cook for a couple of minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Pour in the chili beans (undrained) and diced tomatoes with green chilies (undrained). Stir the mixture thoroughly and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  • In a large baking dish, spread a layer of Fritos chips. Top with a generous portion of the beef and bean mixture. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Repeat the layers – Fritos, beef mixture, and cheese – until you've used all the ingredients.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve the Frito Pie warm, optionally garnished with dollops of sour cream, sliced green onions, and jalapeño slices for an extra kick.
  • Dig in and savor the delicious layers of flavor in this classic Frito Pie. Perfect for casual gatherings or a satisfying weeknight dinner!
