In a bowl, mix Corn Meal, All-Purpose Flour, Creole Seasoning, Paprika, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, and Cayenne Pepper (if you’re feeling a bit spicy).

A person whisks eggs in a small bowl on a wooden counter, preparing Southern fried catfish with hot sauce, seasoning, flour in a ziplock bag, a metal bowl, wire rack, and deep fryer all nearby.
A person pours seasoned breadcrumbs from a white bowl into beaten eggs beside a deep fryer, prepping Southern fried catfish with a bag of flour, metal bowls, and a spice container on a wooden kitchen counter.

In another bowl, whisk together beaten Eggs, Yellow Mustard, and that oh-so-important Franks Red Hot Sauce.

A person marinates fish fillets for Southern fried catfish with orange seasoning in a glass bowl on a wooden counter, next to a bottle of canola oil, black bowls, and a stainless steel appliance.

Dip each Catfish fillet into the wet mixture, ensuring it’s well-coated, then generously cover it with the dry mixture.

A deep fryer with the lid open shows Southern fried catfish sizzling in hot oil, creating bubbles. A metal basket holds the catfish, and a person's hand is visible holding the lid. The deep fryer sits on a wooden surface.

Heat your deep fryer or a large pan with oil to a sizzling 350°F (175°C).

A person lowers a metal basket with two pieces of Southern fried catfish into a countertop deep fryer filled with bubbling oil; containers, a metal bowl, and a cooling rack sit nearby.
A stainless steel deep fryer filled with oil sits on a wooden counter next to plates, jars, and a rack of freshly fried Southern fried catfish, while a hand uses tongs to handle the crispy breaded food.

Fry until that golden perfection is achieved, then let them drain on some paper towels.

Hush Puppies

In a bowl, harmonize Corn Meal, All-Purpose Flour, Sugar, Baking Powder, Cayenne Pepper, and Baking Soda.

In another bowl, whisk together the Buttermilk and Eggs.

Blend the wet and dry components, and then introduce the crescendo – the Jalapenos and Onions.

Heat up the oil to 375°F (190°C) in your deep fryer or trusty pan.

Drop dollops of batter into the hot oil and fry until they hit that golden high note.

Drain on paper towels, and you’re ready to savor these golden nuggets of perfection.

Hey Mr. AB, I trust that you are well. I absolutely love watching your videos ~ your food always look amazing. I have a question for you… you have 2 different Southern Catfish recipes/videos… 1 using buttermilk and at the end you mention that you have some kool-aid over there and then another video where you’re not using buttermilk ~ Which one is your preferred method? Thanks in advance

Hello Barbara. It think if I had to pick one as the #1, I would say the Southern Fried Catfish with the Mustard as the binder is my favorite. Both are good tho. Try both one day and tell me just how hard it it for you to pick a winner. Haha. Enjoy!
