Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- Kosher salt and fresh-cracked black pepper, to taste
- 24 ounces marinara sauce (about 3 cups)
- 18-20 ounces refrigerated tortellini, uncooked (any variety)
- 1 and 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Make sure it’s clean and ready for grilling.
Prepare the Ground Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef until browned. Add chopped onions, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
Add Marinara Sauce: Pour the marinara sauce into the beef mixture. Stir well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Adjust salt and pepper according to taste.
Cook Tortellini: While the sauce is simmering, cook the refrigerated tortellini according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Combine Tortellini and Sauce: Mix the cooked tortellini into the marinara and beef mixture. Ensure all the tortellini is coated evenly with the sauce.
Grill the Tortellini: Transfer the tortellini mixture to a grill-safe pan or foil tray. Place it on the preheated grill. Close the lid and let it grill for about 10-15 minutes or until you get a smoky grilled flavor. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the grilled tortellini. Close the grill lid and let the cheese melt and become gooey.
Serve Hot: Once the cheese is melted and bubbly, remove the pan from the grill. Serve the smoky grilled baked tortellini hot, garnished with additional Parmesan if desired.
